After four days of intense netball at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, Sunday was the penultimate day of the Twizza Netball Club Championships. This tournament had been running since May and started off being played in the 52 districts that Netball South Africa has.
The winners of the various districts went onto play in the provincial tournament and the overall winners at provinces ended up playing in the national finals. All the nine provinces were represented by two teams of males and females.
Sunday saw the semi-final matches being played and the first match of the day being played between Brothers from Gauteng and University of the Western Cape. It was Brothers winning the match 33 – 16. The second semi final match was a contest between the Rising Stars of Limpopo taking on Ocean Predators, it was the gentlemen from KZN who won the match 27 – 22 to secure their final match date with Brothers later in the day.
The ladies semi-final matches were between NWU Eagles and Pumas from KZN and Tuks against Matat. The first match was won by Pumas of KZN 23 -22 who secured their final match slot. Tuks was the second ladies’ team to secure their final place who beat Matat 21 -18.
The two teams that have been very consistent throughout this whole weekend met at the Males final match, it was the Gauteng outfit, the Brothers who played against Ocean Predators. Brothers won the final match and clinched gold medal with a 33 – 22 score against Ocean Predators. The males bronze medal match was won by Rising Stars who beat UWC 42 – 29.
Tuks and Pumas had secured their final match date by winning their respective semis. The bronze medal match was contested by NWU Eagles and Matat. It was NWU Eagles who secured their podium and won the match 36 – 24.
Tuks made their intentions very clear from the first and led the match as early as the first minute. At the end of the match, the Tshwane outfit clinched gold medal and won the match 45 – 21.
