Following the address done by His Excellency, the Honourable President Cyril Ramaphosa held on Sunday 15th March 2020 where he declared Corona Virus Pandemic (COVID-19) a national disaster and following what has been happening around the globe from various sporting codes, Netball South Africa President Ms. Cecilia Molokwane and her Executive Members have taken a unanimous decision to suspend all planned netball activities scheduled to take place in March and April 2020 respectively effective immediately.
All members are urged to postpone all provincial/district netball events such as leagues, tournaments, meetings, umpiring/coaching workshops and clinics as well as large gatherings. Furthermore, with regards to TNL, all teams are encouraged to postpone their training camps until further announcement on the 17th of April. This decision is taken with the aim of protecting all stakeholders and partners.
The Executive Committee will continue to monitor what is happening in the country and make decisions as we go along. The team will reconvene again in thirty (30) days to assess the situation and inform members of the media and the public on the next steps. Further announcements regarding this will be made by the 17th of April 2020.
Our national team SPAR Protea players who are currently playing in Australia and England are in self-isolation following their respective leagues being suspended.
In consultation with the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Honourable Nathi Mthethwa and our partners, we will continue to assess the situation and make decisions which are in the best interest of the sport.
