Competition Manager

  1. EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Our organization has an exciting opportunity for a Competition Manager to join our dynamic team. This permanent position is ideal for an individual capable of executing strategic plans and creating annual performance budgets. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and possess the ability to lead the organization to strive for excellence. They should also have a proven track record in leading sporting performances at the highest level while upholding the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Ethics.

Reporting to: The Chief Executive Officer

Salary: Negotiable

Working Hours: Full-time, including weekends when required

Location: Netball South Africa Office. Gauteng, Pretoria, Arcadia

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership for organization-wide performance as a member of the Executive Team responsible for day-to-day operations.
  • Lead and provide strategic direction for the Performance Department, programs, and competitions.
  • Establish and maintain effective, ongoing relationships within the Netball industry and with external partners and stakeholders.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience in elite sports at the highest level.
  • Successful track record in continuously improving performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both professionally and effectively.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Exceptional administration skills.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Tertiary qualification NQF Level 6
  • A background and recent experience (at least 3 years) in leading teams operating in elite sports at the highest level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of coaching, sport science, and planning for international competitions and matches.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding young individuals in a talent development environment.
  • Possession of a sport management degree or similar qualification.
  • Proficiency in working with multiple partners, stakeholders, and volunteers to achieve success, including collaboration with coaching staff to plan competitions for improved ranking.
  • Experience at the board level.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and strong IT skills.

  • Collaborative team player with an open and consultative style, as well as an optimistic approach.
  • Possesses self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and keen “political instincts.”
