Telkom Netball Championship: Bigger than ever!

Pretoria, South Africa: Netball South Africa (NSA), in collaboration with South African Schools Netball (SASN), has partnered with mobile network operator Telkom to provide a platform for girls from all over the country to showcase their netball skills.

The highly anticipated Telkom Netball Challenge (TNC) has kicked off with a bang, with teams from across the country battling it out on days one and two.

The first two days saw some intense competition, with teams showcasing their skills and determination. The atmosphere was electric, with players, coaches, and spectators alike displaying their passion for the sport.

Coaches, selectors and university talent scouts have been in attendance, searching for young stars to join their netball programs.

The TNC plays a vital role in the development pipeline of NSA by enriching the talent pool for emerging Telkom Netball League (TNL) players and nurturing future national stars. The tournament commenced amidst great excitement on a beautiful Monday morning at the esteemed Hoërskool Waterkloof, in Tshwane.

This year’s tournament has attracted a record-breaking 88 teams vying for the championship title. This turnout represents the largest number of participating teams since the competition’s inception in 2021.

On Tuesday, a grand opening ceremony took place to warmly welcome all participants, with esteemed speakers including Deputy Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya, SASN President Di Wooley, Telkom’s Senior Manager: Brand & CSB Marketing Nozishada Mkhize, and NSA President Cecilia Molokwane.

Each speaker delivered inspiring words, emphasising the significant role of netball and urging parents to actively support their children’s involvement in the sport actively.

“Empowering girls to play sports is not just about winning games, it’s about winning life. Parents, let’s step up and support our daughters, not just with cheers from the sidelines, but with a culture of encouragement and belief that helps them grow strong, confident, and unstoppable – both on and off the field,” Said SASN President Di Wooley.

The tournament continues, with teams vying for a spot in the finals. Don’t miss out on the action!
