With the final leg of the 2025 Telkom Netball League upon us, we caught up with North West Flames Head Coach Elsunet du Plessis to reflect on her team’s growth, preparation and mindset ahead of Power Week 3 in Durban. With focus, fire and resilience, the Flames are ready to finish strong.
1. What has been the biggest area of growth for your team since the opening whistle of Power Week 1?
The biggest area of growth for our team has been mental resilience and collective team unity.
2. How are you approaching preparation for this final stretch — physically, mentally, and tactically?
As we prepare for the last power week, our focus will be on balance, precision and purpose. Physically we need to manage the workload demand of players. With most of the players going into USSA, recovery will be very important. Mentally, we’ve shifted into a mindset of composure and clarity. We’ve put in the hard work. Now it’s about staying focused, trusting the process, and not letting pressure disrupt our flow. Tactically, it’s all about refining, not reinventing. We’ve analysed key learnings from earlier rounds and are making small but critical adjustments.
3. What will it take for your team to finish strong in Durban?
To finish strong in Durban, it is going to take three key things from us: clarity, control and connection. It’s going to take full commitment to each other and every moment we play. Never back down and rise to the opportunity.
4. How have you seen your team culture evolve over the course of this year’s TNL?
Our team culture has grown into something incredibly powerful over the season, something deeper than just tactics or results. We’ve built a culture of accountability, hard work, and heart.
5. Lastly, what message would you like to share with your fans and supporters heading into this decisive Power Week?
A huge shoutout to all our fans and supporters. Thank you for standing with us every step of the way. Your support has been a driving force behind our journey and as we head into the final power week, we’re ready to rise to the challenge.
