Day 6 of the Telkom Netball League Power Week 1 proved to be one of the most dramatic days of the tournament thus far, with multiple close finishes, statement wins, and a thrilling finale that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The headline clash between the Fireballs and Flames lived up to its billing, producing a pulsating contest that went down to the final moments, with the Flames securing a thrilling 50–49 victory.
The Fireballs made a strong start, leading 15–12 after the first quarter, before both sides went into halftime level at 24–24 following a tactical second quarter that saw multiple adjustments.
The Flames found another gear in the third quarter, opening up a lead and taking a 39–34 advantage into the final period.
However, the Fireballs responded with renewed intensity, particularly through their midcourt and defensive pressure, cutting the deficit and eventually levelling the scores at 47–47 with just two minutes remaining.
With the match entering the decisive Telkom Supershot period, both teams traded two-point scores in a dramatic finish, before the Flames held their nerve to claim a memorable win.
Martine Jordaan (GD) was named Player of the Match for her outstanding defensive performance.
The Lilies claimed their first win of the tournament with a hard-fought 49–45 victory over the Comets following their draw against sister team Baobabs on Tuesday morning.
After trailing 13–10 at the end of the first quarter, the Lilies made key tactical adjustments — including positional switches and rotations — to take control of the match, leading 27–23 at halftime.
They maintained their advantage through the second half, closing out the win with composure.
Sonoblomo hold off Tshukudu challenge
Sonoblomo produced a resilient performance to defeat another tough opponent Tshukudu 47–43 in a tightly contested encounter.
After building a 26–21 halftime lead, Sonoblomo were tested by a strong Tshukudu comeback that briefly saw the opposition edge ahead in the third quarter.
However, a disciplined defensive display in the closing stages ensured Sonoblomo held on for the win.
Tornados continue dominance with emphatic win
The Tornados who are the only unbeaten side in their division, reinforced their position at the top of Division 2 with a commanding 63–36 victory over the Diamonds.
A fast start saw them lead 15–9 after the first quarter, before extending their advantage to 35–19 at halftime.
Their high-tempo attacking play and clinical finishing proved too much for the Diamonds, as they maintained control throughout.
The Malawi U21 side continued their strong showing with a convincing 58–39 win over the Sunbirds.
Leading from the first quarter, Malawi controlled the match with disciplined structure and efficient execution, steadily extending their advantage across all four quarters.
Jaguars edge Aloes in competitive clash
The Jaguars who are very high in confidence following their win against cross town rivals Fireballs last night secured a49–44 victory over the Eastern Cape Aloes in a hard-fought Division 1 encounter.
After trailing 26–23 at halftime, the Jaguars regrouped and produced a strong second-half performance to overturn the deficit and claim the win.
Despite the loss, Juanita van Tonder (GK) delivered an outstanding performance which earned her Player of the Match accolade despite being on the losing side.
Kingdom Queens and Baobabs share spoils in epic draw
One of the most intense matches of the day saw the Kingdom Queens and Baobabs play out a dramatic 59–59 draw. This is Limpopo side’s second draw in just as many days, after they drew against Lillies on Tuesday.
In a fiercely contested encounter marked by physicality, resilience, and crowd energy, both teams traded momentum throughout.
The closing moments delivered high drama, with the Baobabs taking the lead through a crucial Telkom Supershot, before the Queens levelled the scores.
A final opportunity for the Baobabs to win the match went narrowly off target, leaving both sides to share the points.

With the standings tightening and momentum shifting across both divisions, Day 6 highlighted just how competitive the Telkom Netball League has become.
