Power Week Reflections with Aloes Captain Noluthando Maliehe

Eastern Cape Aloes captain Noluthando Maliehe reflects on Power Week 1, from battling giants to standout players—and what the team’s chasing in the next block of fixtures.

1. What were some of the key takeaways or standout moments for your side during Power Week 1?
Giving the Fireballs a hard time in our match against them—each and every player who took to the court really showed up.

2. What lessons has your team taken from the opening matches that you’re hoping to build on?
Having a slow or bad start in our opening games—we need to start strong, finish strong, and stay consistent.

3. Was there a particular match, moment or player during Power Week 1 that really stood out for you?
Princess. In her first game, she really stood out and showed us that she’s willing to go to war with the team.

4. What is the team focusing on as you prepare for Power Week 2?
We’re focusing on using all of our centre passes and converting every turnover. That way, we’ll win more games.

5. How do you manage the physical and mental demands of the league, particularly during intense Power Week fixtures?
As tough as it is, we always make it work by setting goals for ourselves and being there for each other every day.

6. What role are your team’s experienced players playing in mentoring younger or newer team members?
We make sure they never feel left out—motivating them and giving advice whenever they need it.

7. What are you and your team most looking forward to in the next block of fixtures?
We’re looking for wins. We know it’s possible because we have so much potential. We don’t want to play in the relegation match.

8. Message to your fans?
Thank you so much for always supporting us—it really means a lot. It gives us more confidence and power knowing we have people backing us.
