Power Week Reflections with Baobabs Captain Muhluri Hlatshwayo

Captain Muhluri Hlatshwayo shares what the team’s learned, what’s next, and why they’re ready to bring the heat in Power Week 2.

1. What were some of the key takeaways or standout moments for your side during Power Week 1?
A big takeaway for us was how hard we fought in every game. We didn’t back down from any team.

2. What lessons has your team taken from the opening matches that you’re hoping to build on? Any specific areas you’ve identified for improvement?
We’ve realised that we need to go into every game with a winning mindset—not just some. We also learnt that last year’s results don’t count; it’s all about how hard you’re willing to fight this year.

3. Was there a particular match, moment or player during Power Week 1 that really stood out for you? On or off the court?
Jessica Madju really stepped up for us—both on and off the court.

4. What is the team focusing on as you prepare for Power Week 2? Has anything shifted in mindset, strategy or preparation?
We’re focusing on playing to our strengths and sticking to our game plan, heading into Power Week 2 with one clear goal—winning.

5. How do you manage the physical and mental demands of the league, particularly during intense Power Week fixtures?
We make sure to eat well, sleep properly and recover fully between matches.

6. What role are your team’s experienced players playing in mentoring younger or newer team members?
Our senior players are offering great support—helping younger players with everything from university stress to staying mentally tough and strong on court.

7. What are you and your team most looking forward to in the next block of fixtures? Any match-ups you’re excited about or goals you’ve set?
We’re excited to return and show other teams what we’re really made of.

8. Message to your fans?
Thank you for your support—it truly means the world to us. You’ve always backed us, even when things didn’t go our way.
