Power Week Reflections with Sunbirds Captain Caitlinn Leonard

From making history to building momentum, Mpumalanga Sunbirds captain Caitlinn Leonard reflects on Power Week 1 and looks ahead to more action!

1. What were some of the key takeaways or standout moments for your side during Power Week 1?
At the end of the week, we started playing as a unit and really connected on court. Every player had a chance to take to the court and showcase their talents.

2. What lessons has your team taken from the opening matches that you’re hoping to build on?
We learnt the importance of better communication—there’s always room to improve there. We also learnt to trust our own abilities and focus on our own team goals, rather than adapting to the pace or standards set by the opposition.

3. Was there a particular match, moment or player during Power Week 1 that really stood out for you?
All our players did exceptionally well, but the standout was our match against the Kingdom Stars. The moment we realised we’d made history was unforgettable.

4. What is the team focusing on as you prepare for Power Week 2?
We’re focusing on maintaining a strong mindset, staying composed, and building on the momentum from Power Week 1. Each day will be treated as a new opportunity—one step at a time.

5. How do you manage the physical and mental demands of the league, particularly during intense Power Week fixtures?
Sufficient recovery after matches and proper planning beforehand are key.

6. What role are your team’s experienced players playing in mentoring younger or newer team members?
Our experienced players play a huge role. We’re always available to offer guidance, answer questions, and keep the team motivated—especially when things get tough.

7. What are you and your team most looking forward to in the next block of fixtures?
We’re looking forward to taking the court again!

8. Message to your fans?
Thank you for all your support, motivation, and endless trust. We hope we’re making you proud to be part of our Sunbirds family.
