Consequent to the media statement released by Netball South Africa on the 16th of March 2020 regarding the postponement of all netball activities due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, Netball South Africa has outlined a few scenarios for events to take place later in 2020.
Please note the following:
- Netball South Africa takes the lives of people seriously.
- Decisions taken were out of consideration for Sponsors and Netball players.
- Plans were made with the understanding that the lockdown might be extended as per the National Technical Health report prepared for the Minister of Health on the 13th of April 2020.
- We (NSA) are obliged to honour our agreements with sponsors on presentation of annual events, therefore the below are proposed dates of the Telkom Netball League (TNL) and the postponement will be informed by how the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds.
TELKOM NETBALL LEAGUE
OPTION 1 – TWO VENUES – 8 WEEKS
AUGUST 28-30
SEPTEMBER 4-6, 11-13
OCTOBER 2-4, 9-11, 16-18, 24-26, 30-31
OPTION 2 – ONE VENUE – 8 WEEKS
OCTOBER 16-18, 24-26, 30, 31 AND 1 NOVEMBER
NOVEMBER 6-8, 13-15
NETBALL SOUTH AFRICA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Championships scenarios will be as follows:
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – EKURHULENI
21-27 June 2020 – Actual Dates – depends on the development of COVID-19
23-27 September 2020 – Option 1
6-11 April 2021 – Proposed date of postponement (possible school holidays) – Option 2
SPAR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – CAPE WINELANDS
2-8 August 2020 – Actual Dates
2-8 December 2020 – Option 2
MALE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – BOJANALA
18-23 September 2020 – Actual Dates
1-7 November 2020 – Option 2
MEETINGS
National Council Meeting will continue as planned. We (NSA) also encourage all provinces, districts and associate members to start with their programs in July only if we are declared safe to socialise again. Try to catch up on lost time as much as possible. Be innovative and encourage your players to train indoors.
U/21 NATIONAL TEAM
- The U/21 National Team will form part of the Telkom Netball League (TNL) in preparation for the Africa Qualifier and the U/21 World Cup (subject to the INF AN events calendar)
- All players selected for the National U/21 team to participate at the TNL will be allowed to play and represent their Provincial TNL teams for the entire TNL season.
- The National U/21 team will be fixtured either in the morning or last on the days they play, to allow players to represent their provinces.
