Q&A with Martha Mosoahle-Samm, Head Coach of the Crinums

As the 2025 Telkom Netball League heads into its final stretch, we caught up with Free State Crinums Head Coach Martha Mosoahle-Samm to reflect on her team’s journey so far and the challenges ahead. With the Crinums aiming for a strong finish in Durban, Coach Martha shares her thoughts on growth, culture, and the drive to bring their A-game when it matters most.

1. What has been the biggest area of growth for your team since the opening whistle of Power Week 1?
The biggest area of growth has been seeing the youngsters fit into the culture of Crinums easily.

2. How are you approaching preparation for this final stretch — physically, mentally, and tactically?
By giving as much support to players as possible and making sure they take proper breaks regularly.

3. Are there any standout players who’ve surprised or impressed you this season?
I think all the youngsters are doing really well.

4. What will it take for your team to finish strong in Durban?
Resilience.

5. How have you seen your team culture evolve over the course of this year’s TNL?
Amazing how the culture has taken its identity and that’s very special.

6. Looking at the current standings, which upcoming fixture are you most focused on — and why?
Definitely the top four because that’s when the real competition starts.

7. How do you help your players stay grounded and focused amidst the pressure of must-win matches?
By making them realise that the win doesn’t come automatically, you have to work hard to get it.

8. Have there been any key lessons or turning points this season that have reshaped your team’s outlook?
Lots of them, with shooting only five goals a quarter against a must-beat team being one of them.

9. What role have your senior players or leadership group played in keeping the squad motivated?
Massive role by walking the talk at all times.

10. Lastly, what message would you like to share with your fans and supporters heading into this decisive Power Week?
They can expect the Crinums to bring their A-game and to never disappoint.
