SPAR PROTEAS NEWCOMER JAMIE VAN WYK 🔥
Having played for the SPAR Baby Proteas for three consecutive years, it was probably only a matter of time before Jamie van Wyk, newcomer in the SPAR Proteas team, would take the next step.
Van Wyk has been selected in the senior national team to compete in the Africa Netball Cup in Namibia from 9-16 November. Apart from South Africa and Namibia, the other participating teams are Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Malawi.
Van Wyk, who celebrated her 21st birthday on 31 October, announced herself in 2019 when the then-18-year-old goal defender was named as the best player at both the National u19 and 21 tournaments making her the top junior player in the country.
The former pupil of St Dunstan’s College made her debut for Tuks before her 19th birthday and went on to play for the national u21 team in 2019, 2020 and 2021. She also debuted for the Jaguars in 2019 and in last year’s Telkom Netball League final, Van Wyk was named the Player of the Match.
Van Wyk took to the court in Windhoek on Tuesday 9 November along with Jessica du Plessis, Refiloe Nketsa and Elmeré van der Berg who also received their first caps for South Africa. Other players who played for the SPAR Proteas in 2021 were: Nonsikelelo Mazibuko, Simoné Rabie, Sian Moore, Chantelle Swart, Nozipho Ntshangase and Boitumelo Mahloko.
