On her retirement Forssman had the following to say: ‘Umpiring is my passion and I have done it with my heart and soul. I am retiring as an ITID and a national umpire due to accepting a promotion at work. I want to thank my husband, Chris and my kids Chrizanne and Stephan for loving and supporting me all the way. Umpire friends are special people, good luck to you all, thanks for crossing my path. May God bless you all.’’

Fellow ITID umpire, Leonard Masao, on Forssman’s career: ”Susan was always that friendly and jolly person. I was lucky enough to have travelled with her in a few major tournaments. Thanks for her support and the kind way of speaking with people always starting with β€œmy friend”. Always willing to give and receive advice; the laughter on the “buda budas” (scooters in Uganda) and the indulgences of food after a long day will always be missed.”

Janet Edeling, fellow IUA retired umpire and ITPC, had the following comment: “Susan is one of the most level-headed persons I know, and it reflected in her umpiring. Always hardworking, self-assessing and trying to improve on her umpiring skills. She is loyal, fun to go on tour with, and above all a great co-umpire to have standing across from you on court. She would always have your back. I wish her every success on her future endeavours.”

Susan showed extreme passion for the game of netball. She was always willing to go the extra mile to become the best umpire she could be. Netball South Africa would like to extend its gratitude for her contribution to netball and hopes to see her in future, back on court as a mentor.
