Johannesburg 22 September 2021 – Twizza, a proudly South African carbonated beverage company and partner to Netball South Africa, rallied behind a club and district level tournament aimed at developing grass roots players in local communities into fully fledged SA netball stars.
The Twizza Netball Club Championship started in May 2021 and culminates in the finals this weekend, 23 – 26 September 2021, at the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane. The finals will see teams who won their respective provincial tournaments compete as they vie for the inaugural championship title.
“We’re very excited to see who comes out on top at the finals in Tshwane this weekend. The tournament has been played in local communities, where 20 clubs in each of the 52 districts participated. The competition has been fierce and there have been some reals stars who have been given a chance to shine,” says Coertzen.
For Netball South Africa, the tournament has been a great opportunity to identify talent and provide consistent competition for all players across the country. The federation is passionate about taking netball back to the people and making the sport more fashionable and access to everyone.
“We are grateful to Twizza for supporting the club netball tournament and the opportunity players have had to access to the sport at grassroot level. The past months of competition have been the catalyst for real growth, and we cannot wait to witness the progress made by all the participants since May. We are very passionate about netball development in this country, one of the best ways to get players into the system is by making sure that we give them access to the game, this tournament has enabled us to do exactly that. We believe the finals this weekend will be tough with some great netball played by all the teams.” concluded Cecilia Molokwane, Netball South Africa President.
The beauty about this tournament is that it was not only focused on ladies who played netball, there were also male teams that participated in this tournament. This has worked very well in line with Netball South Africa’s vision of growing male netball as well. They have just concluded a successful international series four days ago.

Matat (EC); Kabokweni (MP); Bultfontein Striders (FS); NWU Eagles (NW); Tuks (GP); Rubies (NC), Pumas (KZN); De Tyger (WC) and Diesel ‘n Dust (Limpopo)
