Power Week Reflections with Kingdom Queens Captain Senamile Mthembu

Kingdom Queens captain Senamile Mthembu reflects on big wins, bold goals, and the road ahead in TNL2025.

1. What were some of the key takeaways or standout moments for your side during Power Week 1?
Our first standout moment was definitely having the confidence to beat the Kingdom Stars. Another was how effectively we moved the ball across court as a team.

2. What lessons has your team taken from the opening matches that you’re hoping to build on? Any specific areas you’ve identified for improvement?
No team should ever be taken lightly. We’ve learned to fight throughout the game—whether we’re winning or losing. Especially when trailing, it’s important not to give up because the game can still turn in your favour.

3. Was there a particular match, moment or player during Power Week 1 that really stood out for you?
When Sammy converted four Telkom Supershots in a row—that really stood out for me.

4. What is the team focusing on as you prepare for Power Week 2? Has anything shifted in mindset, strategy or preparation?
We’re focusing on playing to our strengths and reminding each player why they matter. Motivation looks different for everyone, so we’re being intentional with how we uplift each other.

5. How do you manage the physical and mental demands of the league, particularly during intense Power Week fixtures?
We stood together during tough times, analysing what went wrong—especially in the losses against the Sunbirds, Tshukudu, and Tornados—so we could improve. We managed the intensity day by day and prioritised recovery with ice baths, pool sessions, and rubdowns to keep our bodies relaxed and ready.

6. What role are your team’s experienced players playing in mentoring younger or newer team members?
They set the standard for professionalism, discipline, and a strong work ethic both on and off court. They pass on tactical insight and situational awareness, provide encouragement, and help new players adjust to the pressure of TNL. Most importantly, they foster a united and positive team culture.

7. What are you and your team most looking forward to in the next block of fixtures?
We’re looking forward to building on our recent performances. Each fixture presents a new challenge, and we’re focused on consistency, growth, and strong results.

8. Message to your fans?
Your support means everything—please keep backing us until the end of the TNL season. We are winning most of our matches because of you, and we promise to make you proud in the second and third rounds.
