Protea Warriors (SA Males National Netball team) continued with their winning streak and title defense as they beat Kenya 49 – 43 on Monday morning. South Africa were high on confidence coming into this match with two wins under their belt while Kenya have only register one win in two matches.
It was the hosts that started like a house on fire and immediately putting South Africa on the back foot as soon as the whistle went – Protea Warriors chased the game for the better of the quarter and only settling in towards the latter part of the first quarter. At the end of the quarter, both teams were locked in at 13 – all.
Kenya continued to pile the pressure on South Africa at the start of the second quarter, however the defending champions were not about to sit back – towards the end of the quarter, Protea Warriors pulled away from Kenya and took charge of the match. South Africa took a single point lead going into half time – the score 23 -24 in favour of Protea Warriors.
The third quarter saw the hosts coming back very strong and took the game to Protea Warriors – the quarter was evenly matched with both teams making sure to capitalize on their centre passes. South Africa made sure to clinch the match 43 -49 and remain top of the group and on track to defending their trophy.
With the males set to have their first ever Netball World Cup in 2028, this year’s edition of Africa Netball Cup will be used as a ranking tournament to determine how teams will be seeded going into the global showpiece.
South Africa will face Malawi on Tuesday at 07:00 SAST.
